Come on, give me the chills

Thoughts about changing, life, and whatever comes to mind.

  • the problem with your inner narrative

Have you noticed that your mind wanders even when you don’t want?

Did you see it when your intention was to be good but in the end you judged one of your dearest friends?

Whenever I think about what spontaneous thoughts come to mind I realize that I’m more envious and proud (in the darkest sense, like the Christian sin) than I would like to be.

My autonomous thoughts are still to be refined and I have to step down from them. The problem with this inner narrative is that it goes on and on by default.

So how do we beat it? We can’t play the same game because we can’t control our mind so much. What we can do is to create a second narrative, a way of living, that permeates and influences the first one. We should become the leading example to follow, the person we’d like to meet ad admire.

  • the same tv format

Many tv series share a common pattern.
If you look at house, suits, etc, they all have a pattern in the narrative sequence.

It’s a proven path to success. If you put some nice jokes, a difficult relationship with the main character, some forbidden love, you’re all good to go for a nice show.

This is something quite common in tv series and once you realize it you can find where it is used.
Much like the whole pixar rules of storytelling you have a common ground to work upon.
It’s the same idea as the Teal & Orange, abused in every hollywood blockbuster movie.

Can we do better? Sometimes we do, there are some nice, delicate and insightful shows like “Master of none” of Aziz Azari, that makes the difference, that shows a different face, they show something that resembles reality in a much more realistic way.

That’s why master of none has probably a 100% rating on rotten tomatoes. Because it’s new, it’s human, it’s different.

  • not procrastinating and taking the time

It’s easy to procrastinate, I’ve written a lot about it in the past, but the thing is that sometimes you do it mostly because you are out of willpower.

When that happens better to slow down, start again from the beginning and ask for help.

Regarding help, that’s something we too often avoid asking to other.
Why shouldn’t we? We fear to be saw as weak, but weaknesses are something quite common and depend on how we live life. We might be unlucky or simply to be out of energy for this day.

Each and every human on heart has been week at least once. The goal isn’t to be strong always, but to learn and allow others to help us.

  • overwhelmed

Today I feel I bit overwhelmed by the number of things that I have to do, I did some of them but now I realize they are all foggy, like if I’ll forget about them later on.
I feel like I didn’t put that much attention and care in them.

In these cases I tend to relax and take time, that’s my best recipe because more often than not it’s because you don’t threat yourself very well that you feel overwhelmed.

  • when we didn’t have “time”

What was life without time? When you only had the sun to decide what part of the day were you in?

Today while listening to “How we got to now” I listened to the story of how the measuring of time was born and what fascinated me the most was imagining life before time measuring.

Less stressful for sure. You didn’t had train times, you didn’t have appointments.

Now we are very productive, but at what cost?
Maybe all we’re creating is another way to loose the present.
