Come on, give me the chills

Thoughts about changing, life, and whatever comes to mind.

  • the beauty in the little things

I am the type of guy who always did the “Go big or go home”, who in some ways always strived for the best possible outcome and situation.
I was sure that great results led to a greater life.

While this is true, it is also true the opposite.
Lately I found myself thinking even more about the small things, the small actions that we do together. It’s fascinating because the small things are much more difficult to grasp and enjoy, and yet when you truly enjoy them everything changes.

In this way they are much more powerful, because they need more attention and profoundness to be understood.

  • can we survive the voice in our head and stay outside the beaten path?

can we survive the voice in our head and stay outside the beaten path?

I was sure that anyone in this world had a price.
I mean that price. The price of submission, of acceptance, of corruption.

I was sure that we all had a price tag somewhere in our clothes that we didn’t see and it was our price.
The price to close an eye, the price to ignore something or stay put.

In some ways, I still believe this, but I came to realize that there’s a lot of shit that may happen.
While it might be true that we all have a break point, it’s not necessarily true that we have a predefined price tag.

Why on heart would anyone be dishonest?
    Greed, maybe.
Aside from greed I guess there’s poverty, there’s weakness, there’s fear.
There’s the downside of being a weak human, not because we were born this way, but because we accepted many compromises through our life.

Each compromise made it easier to accept a worst thing, and so on.
Together with the fact that we are weak, that we always feel the need to succeed without effort, that we would like to avoid problems and live a peaceful life, together with this, it’s quite easy to imaging why someone could be dishonest.

What would you do if, by just staying silent, you would get a raise? (Even though you don’t deserve it?) I mean a big raise, something that would change your life.

You might choose to not accept it, but I guess the thought would cross your mind anyway, right?
It’s that moment, the one when we decide that we are better, that changes everything.

    Also… it’s hard. Really.
We don’t have a script, we don’t know which choice will be the right one and so on.

I don’t think people are evil, but I think people can be weak.
In every single person of this world there is a voice that tells you “Accept the raise, it’s fastest, you suffered a lot, you deserve it” even though you know you don’t deserve it.
That voice is part of our struggle to be better humans, is part of our journey to learn how to live in this world.

And while many people will choose the fast solution, I will still think that the slow one (not accepting the raise) is the best for me.
Even though I’m always battled, even though my mind keeps saying “Accept it”.

Writing this reminded me of Gollum in the Lord of the Rings.
We are all like Gollum and Frodo.
Which one we become, is up to us.

  • discover nature

I use my smartphone a lot, maybe even more that’s necessary.
In the past I also installed some apps to track the overall time I used it and discovered it was way too much (2 hours? come on!).
When I realized how  much time I spent on a smartphone I instantly reduced it, and found out that when I used it less, I felt better.

    Much better.

Now I’m in a house with a big green garden in front of it, the silence around it and only some car passing by.
    It’s amazing.
It makes me think about how much we owe to nature and how much nature can give back to us.
Relaxing, beautiful, intense. Nature is a key element to our lives.

Still, the more we become technologically evolved, the less we feel the urge to reconnect with nature.
Not in a zen way, just in a relaxed -no goals- way.
Stay in nature for the sake of it.

I remember friends talking about studies that stated how hugging trees was beneficial to humans.
Maybe this is it, maybe we just need to reconnect, to rediscover nature again, to breath, feel the wind and enjoy the green.

  • taking time off and recovering

This morning I’m thinking about when we need to take time off and simply enjoy life.

Is it needed? To me the answer is yes. It’s needed and it’s a good thing.
You have to stop, relax, and do nothing for a while once you’ve already done a lot.

I know that I’ve talked about procrastination and idleness, but this is just another side of the world. We can’t compare our results taking into consideration only when we are active.
Because we need to rest, to take time off and relax.

Now, in all of this there’s also the time needed to recover.
Since after you relaxed you probably lost a bit of touch with things/people, then you’ll have to start working on recovering the usual speed and recreate your daily routine.

  • the first time

There’s a beautiful italian song called “Costruire” (building) that talks about the first times you have in life.

First kiss, first audition, first job.
And then, with a sensibility that only a great artist would have it adds how this is the beginning, then there’s the rest, the day after day, and it’s all about building.

    Building your life upon.
The first time is surely more spectacular, it has more tension, because of expectations and so on.
But the hard part it’s the rest of your life.
Beginning, after all, is the first step.
