Come on, give me the chills

Thoughts about changing, life, and whatever comes to mind.

  • hard discussions

    What is more important?
There are topics that are so different, you can talk about where did you put the socks or what will you do in your life.

The thing is, you need to discuss both. You can’t escape neither the first nor the second, but the way you approach them might be quite different.

But what is the goal? Discussing hard things shouldn’t focus on right or wrong.
You should focus on understanding both positions, talking to each others and find a compromise.

Because no great life has been lived without compromises.

  • is it your property?

There’s a video about Denmark that’s becoming viral these days.
Each Facebook page decided to redo the subtitles or to simply copy another video and share it again.

Given the structure of the video itself its growth is continuing forward, but what I don’t like is the fact that this video has no ownership whatsoever.

What is the source? The origin?
I’d like to make them popular than other companies.

Few days ago an italian musician said that once you create music that is not your music, but it’s something that belongs to everyone. That was such a nice thought, but thinking back at it in this situation I feel we’re missing the point.

People are gaining money through this kind of sharing.
And this would be fine if it wasn’t for the fact that they aren’t adding any value, any experience, nothing.

They are echoing the original message, that’s it.

Even if the message is beautiful I see this actions like “stealing”, like abusing the wonderful freedom the internet is giving us, only to gain some more followers, popularity and, in the end, money.

It’s another form of invisible bad marketing.
If you thought we learned from our errors, fear not, we didn’t.

People are still continuing to pursue marketing with money as their only goal.
Not everyone of course, but the fact that a video with a positive message hides the fact that people are using it to gain popularity is one of the worst things I can do because we become tools into someone else plan.

And by sharing it we think that we did something good, and that’s partly true, but that’s not the end of the story.
We spread some kind of cancer, without us knowing, without us asking again where does this come from.
Who deserves the glory and the praise for this work?

Are we helping them? Or are we supporting other people that might not share the same goals and interest?

  • objective and subjective issues

In italy we are discussing about the political problems of Rome.
A well respected journalist compares the media attack to an old one made towards another political figure of the opposite party.

In both cases people against the involved person were all talking about “she couldn’t not know” and so on, while the people on her side told “she didn’t know, why is that so hard to understand?”, and bla bla bla.

Politics aside, the thing is that we tend to have a side and forcefully attack the other.

We expect from the other people the perfect behaviour but then when it comes to us, we want to be understood.
Because, you know, there were reasons for this, and so on.

When we are outside of the problem we apply an objective reasoning, while if we are inside we apply a subjective reasoning.
This mostly happens also because we tend to

    1. defend our positions
    2. know why we did something and therefore understand the “how we got there”, that’s impossible to know from the outside.

I think it’s almost impossible to have an objective reasoning while we are inside the problem, but this opens up a nice discussion about what we can do when we discuss.

With a friend, few days ago, we discussed about the implication of “attacking the man or attacking the idea” on a philosophical level.
The thing is that if we always talk about the person we tend to attack him/her, while if we try to have a colder approach and talk only about the idea itself, avoiding any kind of judgement to the person, even implied judgement, than it’s easier to avoid the trap.

Maybe we can’t get objective reasoning, but I’m quite sure that this approach, although hard and not always applicable, is a nice way to not solve but at least limit the problem.

  • the need to overbuy

I am a serial buyer, I buy lots of stuff, things I like.
I dive with passion in learning new things and so I buy things.

And it occurred to me that a new frontier is rising, at least for people like me that suffer from this illness.
Amazon and all the big stores are improving in advicing new product so that basically you’re using an ecommerce as a social network, continously searching for new things to buy.

  • january 2017 monthly checkup

Wooo, looking back at january I’m sure to have slacked a lot.

Thing is, I find myself quite inefficient when writing before going to bed. I need focus and attention and this often comes early in the morning, not later at night.

That said january came along quite well.
Me and my future wife are preparing both the marriage and our moving into a new home, which is fantastic.

it was a really good month from a work perspective, but I feel I need to get back to learning new things or I won’t advance again.

That said, here there are a few posts of me that were worth reading

I feel like “how to change” is a topic that’s been widely explored but always from a “simple” point of view.
My take is that change is often a long process that requires lot of courage and passion.
I think we should talk more about how “normally” difficult is to change and how much struggle there is into doing what you’re not wanting to do.
